Welcome

I dont have a lot of spare time, I dont think anybody does really. And when I do get some spare time... I have SO many things that i want to do - I get lost in a sea of possibilities and have a garage full of 1/2 finished projects. Apparently I'm not superwoman...... go figure.

I am very happy in life - I have an amazing, supportive partner, and the most beautiful Daughter I could ever have dreamed up born in 2011 and a handsome son with boundless energy who was born in 2009.

We are renovating a nest as weekend warriors, its hard work but it will all be worth it!

Lets see if this blog thing takes off and where it may take us......

The Blueberries taste like blueberries!!

This is a Pomegranate tree. about 1.5m tall at the moment and has been in ground about 2 months. No action yet - i actually pruned some branches to just check that there is still green going on on inside there and there was.. so we will patiently wait and see what happens to this little mystery bag... I will powerfeed it again for the 2nd time tomorrow. Go little Pome GO!

Trixie Pear. Its only about 1m tall and is ornamental as much as it is a provider of healthy nutritious food. Its just starting to green up and is very exciting to watch.

Strawberries! Planted 4 varieties to ensure we have a varying, long harvest. These were our FIRST two. They were sweet, but the thing i noticed the most was how watery and fresh they tasted! I am so glad we devoted some sunshine space to these, looking forward to many more.

Nectarine Tree - The blossoms blew away in the recent strong winds. I am assuming the fruit will start to develop soon from somewhere around here, either the buds on the end of the branch or at the base of the flower perhaps?
Blueberries! I have planted 3 blueberry bushes, apparently they will form a nice hedge eventually. The flowers were very nice and cute and from the base of the floer bulb formed these blueberries. a while to go before they ripen but i am SO excited to taste them!! YUMMO!

A day in the garden...

Another sunday was spent in our new garden today. When we brought this house, the backyard was a blank canvas as far as gardens are concerned. There is a large gum tre and there (was) an ugly structure passing as a back pergola, which we ripped down today.
We have created 4 vegie beds with treated pine sleepers. the reason we have done 4 is so that we can rotate the veggies in such a way as to avoid diseases in the soil. explain this in another post to more detail. We have spent hundreds in organic potting mix to fill the beds, not counting that materials, seeds ect so hoping we get lots of veggies in the time to come. we also nailed over some chicken wire on top of the veggie gardens so cats dont go to the toilet in them. eew!

box 1 - broccoli, spinich, brussells sprouts.
box 2 - carrott, beetroot,  red onion and tomato
box 3- kohl rabi, raddish, sunflowers, tomato, and leek.
box 4 - nothing yet, we are yet to plant anything in here.

Today I also continued my quest for the perfect lawn. 2 weeks ago I covered the entire lawn (buffalo) in winter grass killer -a little bright orange box - which cost $30 at my local nursary for a small bottle which i diluted and watered over the lawn with my watering can. it worked alright but another application is definately neccessary as the bottle directed as some weeds are hanging on - especially the bindis. So today i went over it with another type that was only $9.99 from bunnings (a little clear plastic bottle which also did our whole yard) so hoping it does as good as a job. So now in 2 weeks i am going to spread a lawn food to feed and green up the lawn - we are going to use Brunnings Aussie green Lawn Food which was only 418 from bunnings and is supposed to do 300sq metrres of lawn. hopefully by  summer we have lush, green totally lay-on-able lawn!

enough about gardens tonight, maybe I'll post some pics later.

Just a few tips I like...

Dont rely on anyone else to do your work for you. If you want something done, do it yourself. Its the only way it will get done, and to your standards. On the other hand if someone does something for you - take the time to let them know how much you appreciate it.

Being powerful doesnt have to mean being the CEO of a multi national. you ccan be a powerful person just by being strong, and sticking to your guns. believe in yourself and stick to your guns. You are your own boss. You are the master of your own happiness.

If you have an idea - support it. Dont be embarrassed to voice your opinions and show the world what your made of. The biggest injustice you can give yourself is to mask your true self.

Forget about fear. Pretend that what you want will happen and nothing can stop it.

Be tenacious

If you have a bad feeling about something or someone. Your probably right. Trust your guts and accept that some things are best kept away from.

Be brutally honest with people. Nothing is more refreshing than the truth. And make sure you are clear about things, eliminate the grey areas and set yourself on the right track from the start.
Don’t hesitate or procrastinate - create and innovate! the only way to move forward is to take one step followed by another.

Be prepared, don’t leave things to chance. although chance can be an adventure in some contexts = as one of my uni lecturers used to say "prior planning prevents piss poor performance"

Smile in the face of pressure> even if you arent the type of person who thrives on stress.. it will all be okay and all we can do in life is our best.

Be courageous. there is nothing to be afraid of.

Show respect to all living things.

Treat every human equal. This may be the most important thing of all. NEVER judge somebody based on things they cant change, such as race, sexuality, sex or colour.
Dont make lame excuses. or any for that matter. noone wants to hear it.

Welcome adversity and learn from its lessons and adventures.

Take care of your body. its the only one you'll ever get. that includes exercising your mind too. if you loose that, youve lost everything.

celebrate and enjoy the success of others. once you learn to do this you will derive a lot more joy in life. and isnt it nice to see others doing well...

Never sink below your values and principals and stand up for what you believe in.. and for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

Don’t let your ego ruin you. Your so amazing! never forget that so is everyone else.

Be single minded if you must, and always be determined but never selfish or arrogant

Don’t complain or whinge. it only makes situations worse and more uncomfortable. dont like something? fix it.

Be positive and optimistic. Laugh often. even if you have to you tube comedians for a few mins, look at pictures you love, watch a funny movie. the more you laugh - the better you will feel and the more you will laugh. its a cycle.

Don’t be scared to show your emotions. open up to people and they will open up to you.
Never get bored, there is no greater insult you can give yourself

Cherish your friendships - a good friend who shares your values and interests is like a needle in a haystack.

Ask a lot of questions and be willing to hear the answers. people can tell when you really care about the answers and they will open up to you and you will get a lot more from people this way.

Never give up

Posture is important. remind yourself often to sit up straight. hold your head up. smile.

Tell people you love them the instant you feel it. over and over again.

Don’t worry, worry gets you nowhere

Shoot for that moon because as the saying goes even when you miss you end up in the stars.

Control the controllable. accept what is beyond.

Learn from the best.

See the sunrise. i never got this one when i was yonger. but seriously - do it now and then. the day means so much more when you do. i dont know why,, but it does.

Take opportunities when they come to you. regret it a hard thing to live with.

Be passionate about life and what you believe in. We are only here once - its not a rehersal. this is it. so get going and dont waste another second.
